Florian Kolb

 

 

I was born in Zürich on April 15th 1980 and grew up in Trüllikon, a small village in the northern part of Switzerland. After finishing primary school I enrolled at the Gymnasium Rychenberg in Winterthur.

At the time, a book about Chaos Theory inspired me to learn how to use the computer language Basic so that I was able to do programming that helped me verify the published results about Chaos Theory. Due to my fascination for dynamic systems and higher mathematics I went on to study mechanical engineering at the ETH in Zurich.

After the first two years of studies I decided to do a project-oriented degree because I like putting newly acquired knowledge directly into practice. During this project-based work, I have also learnt a lot about teamwork and project management. Thanks to the competitive environment and the challenge of reaching a goal together with my team mates, this project has indeed turned out to be a unique experience.

Within the PAC-Car team my focus lies on the optimization of the fuel-cell system and its controlling system in particular. Initially, this started with collecting data and will finally lead to an overall controlling strategy for PAC-Car II.

During my free time, outside the laboratory, I like outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, cycling and climbing - but I also like an enjoyable evening with friends, having a self-cooked meal, chatting and discussing about many different issues.
